Bouquet of Poems
I am not a poet. But I have been scribbling poems all my life starting as a kid. I was initially inspired by the famous Bengali poet, Sukumar Ray, whose nonsense rhymes are known to every kid and adult in Bengal. Sukumar Ray belonged to an illustrious lineage of geniuses. His father, Upendra Kishore Ray, was a writer, painter, entrepreneur. His son, Satyajit Ray, is well-known throughout the world. Sukumar Ray is known in every Bengali home for his books like ‘Abol Tabol’, ‘Pagla Dashu’, ‘Ha, Ja, Ba, Ra, La’ etc. As children we used to know many of his poems by rote. I used to compose short poems in his style on day to day family incidents and share it with my parents and siblings. Much later I was introduced to the limerick style and four line dohas of Kabir. In both these forms one has to express one’s thought in just a few lines lines. I found this very fascinating as it also challenged one’s ability to be able to convey a nano-story. Much of what I wrote I lost. But some of the poems survived. My medium has been Hindi, English and Bengali.
This collection is actually my life’s experiences expressed in simple poetic form. The language is plain, the rhyme is rudimentary. All my earlier books have been non-fiction, and in prose. This one is an experiment with fiction in poems.
