The author has traveled to remote villages in North Gujarat to collect folklore from bards and storytellers.  Folklores are real-life stories from the past. They reveal the values, beliefs,  living conditions of the people of that time. Although folklores are not based on formal, cogent historical evidence, they are nonetheless a form of people's history--heard, remembered, narrated, and passed on from generation to generation. 

The author has inserted verses from The Bhagavad Geeta to illustrate how the lives of the chief protagonists were guided, even if unconsciously, by the teachings of their scriptures, how the wisdom of old helped them to cope with their life and it's circumstances.  Their lives hold important lessons for us.
