The novel ‘Grit, Grind and Glory : A Cadet Story’ is the story of a middle class couple and their sons who aspire to join the armed forces. It takes the readers through the arduous journey of the aspiring young men coming from diverse backgrounds and different parts of the country who forge a strong bond with one another while imbibing the military ethos. It captures the trials and tribulations of the cadets, their camaraderie and finally their metamorphosis into commissioned officers. Besides, it delineates the pain and angst of the parents during the times their children go through the grind in their Academies which are eventually supplanted by those of pride and exuberance while shipping the stripes on their shoulders.

About the Author:
About the Author: Rakesh Sehgal is a retired IDAS officer of 1986 batch. He is a Masters in English and MBA(Public Policy) from ICPE Ljubljana(Slovenia).Apart from Defence, he has worked in the Broadcasting and Power sectors. Prior to joining the IDAS, he taught English in a college in Chandigarh. Despite choosing Accounts and Finance as his vocation, he has continued to pursue his passion of reading English and Hindi Literature.
In 2020,he translated a Hindi novel ‘Aurat Zinda Hai’ into English with the title ‘Thou Art Still A Woman’. The success of his maiden attempt at translation prompted him to try his hand at an original work which has materialized into the novel ‘Grit, Grind and Glory: A Cadet Story’.
