Bong Dhong Dot Com - Ramyarachana Sankalan
“Bong Dhong Dot Com” is a collection of 20 Bengali stories written by Maitreyee Kumar. These stories take a tongue-in-cheek view of the life and style of “Bong” people both at home and abroad: they come out lively with the author’s sharp sense of humour and extraordinary skills in word play and wit. The stories deal with a range of family, social and political situations of the quintessential life of Bengali people, from the turmoils in relationships in the age of Facebook, the age-old bickering between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law, to the plans for London’s catharsis with Kolkata’s “cadres” and the aftermath of the collapse of the Vivekananda Setu.
Maitreyee Kumar hails from Kolkata where she spent her childhood and completed her post-graduate degree in literature. After a short stint in teaching, she set out on her creative journey. Her stories have found place in popular magazines like “Desh" and "Unish Kuri”, published by the Ananda Publishers in Kolkata, and have won awards from the readers and jury of “Pratilipi”. She writes the popular Bangla blog Bong Dhong Dot Com (www.bongdhong.com) and has thousands of followers on Facebook. Her readers have compared her writings with those of well-known Bengali writers of the past. Some of the readers’ comments are available on her blog. She currently lives in Copenhagen.
