Metaphysics of Sankara
Sankaras whole philosophical out look or search is directed towards one point; to find out the essential characteristics or nature of reality. The reality of everything except that of Brahman is an illusion as in reality nothing other than Brahman exists. As the reality of anything other than that of Brahman is co-extensive with empirical knowledge and experience, it ceases to be the moment it is not so known and experienced. Now the reality of anything other than Brahman is denied for two important and logically valid reasons. The reality of the word, and of the individual self are denied because by their very nature they don’t deserve the status of reality, and also on the ground that they aren’t experienced or known in that form when Brahman is directly realized.
