Currency wars in Asia : A case study of Sri Lanka and its major Asian trading partners
Asian exchange rate movements has been much debated but the large body of existing empirical literature does not suggest an unequivocally clear picture of the trade impacts of changes in exchange rates of Sri Lanka in relation to its best Asian Trading Partners. The top 08 Asian trading partners to Sri Lanka are; India, Singapore, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Iran, China and Taiwan. This paper, first constructed the Nominal Effective Exchange Rate (NEER) and Real Effective Exchange Rate (REER) and then applied the Engle- Granger technique to investigate the long run co-integration relation Error Correction mechanism (ECM) to explore the short-run linkage.
