The development of photocatalytic reactors is essential for the successful exploitation of heterogeneous photocatalysis on semiconductor particles, which has been shown to be an effective means of removing organic pollutants from wastewater streams.

A set of NiO, Co3O4 and NiO-Co3O4 nanocomposite (Three reactant mole ratios such as 1.5:0.5, 1.0:1.0, 0.5:1.5) materials were prepared by reflux condense method using nickel acetate / cobalt acetate as precursor salts, sodium monododecyl sulphate as a surfactant and N,N-Dimethylformamide as solvent with surfacatants.

The prepared nanocomposites were calcined at different temperatures such as 200, 400, 600 and 800oC for 2 hours each to get the phase pure product. The prepared materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy, Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDAX), UVVis spectroscopy and PL spectroscopy techniques.

The XRD results confirmed the presence of crystalline cubic phase in all the materials. The presence of metal-oxygen bond (Ni-O and Co-O) was confirmed by FTIR spectroscopy. The existence of particles in nanometer range was shown by SEM. The optical behavior of the materials was studied by UV-Vis and PL spectrophotometer. Photocatalytic degradation studies were studied for compounds such as, methyl orange and rhodamine B dye. The obtained results were discussed and reported.
