Literature is a reflection of society: A medium of expression for the silenced voices. Ms. Lakshmi Puri, Acting Head of UN Women on Ending Violence against Women and Children at the ACP-EU Parliamentary Assembly on 18 June 2013, in Brussels stated “up to 70 per cent of women in some countries face physical and/or sexual violence in their lifetime” and almost a decade later the picture remains grim. Gender discrimination be it individual, familial, social or even global leads to different types of violence which has drawn the attention of contributors to study the multiple facets of gender inequality, the agony and the pain suffered by women across the globe through the lens of multidisciplinary literature. Violence and Gender Disparities against Women: a Global Scenario through its six sections brings together women’s experiences of violence, discrimination, oppression and social–cultural disparities across culture and societies which negatively impacts individual/family/community/society and country in holistic development.

The book is significant reading for gender studies, humanities, human rights, social sciences, sociology, psychology, world literature scholars, and social activists as it provides a gendered viewpoint on the violence wrought upon women due to varied issues including socio-cultural-religious norms, patriarchal domination, conflict, health, law, economic deprivation, education, representation in politics, etc.
