Dark Patterns - Fictional Crimes Inspired by the Optics of Real-Life Killers Around the Globe
DARK PATTERNS is a collection of fictional crime stories inspired by the behavioral and psychological patterns associated with real-life killers around the world. Rather than retelling actual crimes, the book asks a different question: what might these patterns look like if they emerged in another time, another place, and under entirely different circumstances?
Set within contemporary social environments, the stories explore obsession, control, abandonment, manipulation, visibility, power, identity, and the desire to possess other human beings. Each chapter presents an original crime with new characters, victims, investigators, motives, and investigative trails while drawing inspiration from recognizable criminal psychology.
Technology, social media, migration, family relationships, professional authority, and institutional systems become new spaces in which old human compulsions reappear. Moving beyond the mechanics of crime, DARK PATTERNS is ultimately less interested in how murderers kill than in the disturbing patterns of thought, behavior, and desire that make their crimes possible.
