Both crime and criminals have become the focus of attention in our present day society. It is increasingly realized that as crime is a phenomenon that is to be reckoned. It is a regrettable fact that there is not a single scientific study undertaken or comprehensive macro and micro level studies of Trends of crime in Jammu and Kashmir which could have facilitated a better understanding of its causes and effects and help to devise proper remedial measures.

It was necessary to make scientific studies of different factors that usually lead particular section of people to commit crimes in Jammu and Kashmir. This book is an attempt to draw a comparison between SRINAGAR and JAMMU, the capital cities of Jammu and Kashmir. As cities are the gateway for the entry of all new trends and materials in the fields of culture, fashion, science and technology. These trends and materials spread among the people like a wild fire because of dense population of the cities. Other urban areas are not different than the capital cities except that the number of crimes is lesser because of their rear population density and limited opportunities to the modern advancements in science and technology.
