In my dissertation I have tried to portray the Indian-ness of the text which is originally translated from Bengali and should be well known as a masterpiece of tribal literature. The vernacular aspects in the text are highlighted within each story. Commenting and analysing throughout the division of the society with a Marxist point of view. The plight of tribal women is also included as well as the finesse and brilliant art of storytelling by the author herself.
