Typhoid fever is a bacterial infection caused by Salmonella bacteria with main symptom of prolonged fever. It is caused by Salmonella Typhi bacteria that belongs to a group of bacteria from Salmonella genus. There are more than 2,600 bacteria in this group, however, many of these serovars do not infect humans or animals.

Typhoid fever infection has existed since ancient time. This illness spread where there is insufficient clean water supply for the population and compromised hygiene condition Typhoid fever is characterized by symptoms of prolonged fever, and could be accompanied various complications, even death, if it is not properly treated.

Aside from Typhoid fever, there are Paratyphoid fever, which is generally milder illness. In addition, there is also another recent condition, called iNTS (invasive non-typhoidal Salmonellosis.
