When Derek Hardy takes early retirement to care for his terminally ill wife, he expects life to revolve around her. When she dies sooner than expected, Derek is left devastated, lonely and without purpose.

Finding solace in walking the historic streets of Central London, Derek begins to rebuild a quiet existence, spending his days exploring the city and writing walking routes for his own enjoyment.

Then, during one of his regular coffee stops, an eighteen-year-old girl from Manchester asks if she can share his table.

What begins as an innocent conversation develops into an extraordinary friendship and eventually something much deeper. But their relationship brings opposition from her father and criticism from Derek's own family. When the girl's father forcibly separates them, Derek's family unexpectedly rally behind him, helping him in an extraordinary attempt to bring her back to London.

As their relationship grows, they face the challenges of their age difference, family resistance and an uncertain future. Then a serious accident leaves the young woman fighting for her life, threatening everything they have built together.

Through grief, conflict, hope and unexpected love, Derek discovers that life can begin again when you least expect it.

Rebirth of a Fossil is a story of loss, second chances, family and an unconventional love that refuses to give up.
