An Office Story : Deaf And Dumb
S. M. Shridhar was born and grew up at a place embroiled in turbulent social and political environment. With uncertainty always hovering around, he completed his education. He moved out of his hometown to join the service in one of the oldest Central Government departments. Feeling like a caged bird he always revolted against the archaic system and orthodox folks around him. He was termed as an eyesore, therefore inherent to invite a comment, ’ Trying to be New Yorker while living in Rome” - though well wishers would empathise with him to be a misfit in the conservative environment.
Nourished by a latent itch for writing, he penned down poems and short stories but self-assessed them as not worth presenting or publishing. Friends would appreciate the attempt, but the lack of confidence put up the blocks. The gypsy like service life deprived him of a stable and settled mind. An inconspicuous incident buoyed in him the idea of chronicling the past - so the present edition - an honest history of happenings.
