My Beautiful Ugly Tales
This is a collection of 20 works, comprising of 10 short stories and 10 poems structured in two acts.
Act i(5 stories+5 poems) is all about the concept of “rise”. In the literal and metaphorical sense. The stories are all very different to each other. One is a western parable about an outlaw, while the other is about a man finding peace in his dreams. One is a high octane action thriller about an assassin, while the other is about a man indulging in sins in a brothel. These stories all develop and revolve around a radical change, a metamorphosis that maximises every human feeling: lust, vengeance, solitude, and happiness.
The poems all paint a vivid portrait of a birth of an artist. If the stories all propelled chaos and change, the poems are what accelerates this change. One poem is about the urge to create art, while the other is about the search for love. One is about solace in nature, while the other is about a painful heartbreak.
All of this culminates in the highest peak. The material success. The rise from a desire for peace, to hard-earned success.
Act ii is all about introspection. The stories include a celebrity blinded by papparazzis, a boy escaping the woods and being reborn as a man, an anti-social psychopath, a teenager talking to his friend about his future, and a beggar’s redemption. All these stories offer a moment of introspection that stays with you quietly in your heart.
The poems on the other hand, is about the birth of a legend. In act i, the artist was born. Here, he is mythologized.
The poems all transform the artist into a person, who was unable to find real love, but was at peace with his pen and paper.
In short, the book is a collection that showcase a varietal range of works, filled with drama, action, romance, tragedy, humour, and emotion. The main underlying theme is the birth of the artist, through these lessons, heartbreaks and failures.
